The primary focus of the Superintendent of Biomass is to plan, contract and coordinate the delivery of forest based raw material to Pinnacle’s network of production facilities. This role will be Pinnacle’s key point of contact for both primary sector harvesters and other contractors engaged by Pinnacle in the recovery of harvest residuals. This role will also play the lead role in the activities associated with sourcing biomass from salvage stands where Pinnacle assumes the role of primary harvester.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contract negotiations and supervision of supply program with primary harvesters
  • Forecasting of volumes of costs within each harvest region.
  • Travel to planned and current logging operations to assess and monitor residual recovery opportunities and activities.
  • Effectively use mapping, GPS and volume assessment tools.
  • Communicate with primary harvesters, contractors, Ministry of Forest staff and Pinnacle production facility personnel.
  • Acquire base information as needed from the Ministry of Forests district offices.
  • Review standing timber opportunities and assess the “logging chance”.
  • Develop costing models to estimate the net delivered cost to Pinnacle’s production facilities.
  • Assess fiber budget and work within that framework
  • Update fiber forecast as needed
  • Negotiate and interact on a daily basis with Fiber suppliers.
  • Locating and contracting equipment and resources to extract and deliver biomass.
  • Coordinate and implement the logistical delivery of fiber with Pinnacle’s production facility management, and suppliers.
  • Carry out other assigned duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements (Experience, Education, Qualifications, Skills, Abilities)

  • 3 years experience in forestry, preferably in the pellet/wood manufacturing or manufacturing environment.
  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RFT)or eligible to gain professional status.
  • BSc Forestry or equivalent combined experience and education
  • Ability to use forest maps and be proficient with GPS and other measuring tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across functions, business units and geographies – a strong background in a matrix organization is beneficial
  • Effective business systems thinker and a good understanding of business process knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with others in a diverse environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at one time
  • Ability to communication with internal and external shareholders.
  • Strong stakeholder management focus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with personal computers and business applications
  • Must have a clean driving record
